U.S. POLICY UNMASKED AT
RAMBOUILLET TALKS
The first round of Rambouillet talks on Kosovo had failed,
but had been useful for Serbia and the Serbian people, because
they had completely unmasked the U.S. policy.
It had been demonstrated to the whole world that the United States'
chief goal was not to reach a democratic settlement for Serbia's troubled
province, but to deploy NATO troops to Serbian territory.
It has been shown that the Yugoslav republic of
Serbia is constructive in its approach, that our state delegation wants
to negotiate, while the envoys of the ethnic Albanian political parties
and terrorist organization systematically avoided all contacts that might
result in talks.
The Americans themselves made nonsense of the
negotiation process, and the United States is now trying to hide
its defeat from the American people.
If nothing has been signed, then nothing has been
achieved. Yugoslav state delegation had wanted to sign all that had
been agreed in principle, but the Americans and their
protégés had not wanted this.
The failure of the U.S. policy had brought a
respite, and we are warning that the United States and its allies could
continue to think up new tricks and that their pressure and threats would
intensify in an effort to take Kosovo away from the state of Serbia.
Our state is willing to give the maximum rights to the ethnic minorities
in the same way this matter was regulated in other civilized states. Serbia
is
not planning an offensive in Kosovo, but is determined to suppress
terrorism, and our police would not give up on its regular duties. |
